There wasn’t much left in the house.
Ashley is 8 years old. Her stepdad has been out of work for a while, and they were struggling day by day. Just two cups of rice remained — enough, they hoped, to stretch across the weekend for their family of five.
They decided to make it last: one cup on Saturday, one on Sunday, cooked into a thin, watery soup so everyone could have at least something warm.
After the first meal, Ashley said, “I’m still so hungry.”
Her mum looked at her, then at the pot. And in that moment, they made a decision — they would cook the second cup of rice that night and trust Jesus for tomorrow. Together, they sat and prayed as a family, asking God to help them.
That night, Ashley had a dream.
In the dream, Jesus came close and spoke gently to her:
“Don’t worry. I will provide for you.”
The next morning, they got ready for house church — it was being held right in their home. While they waited, Ashley told her mum all about the dream. It was the first time she had, had a dreamlike that and there was excitement about what God would do.
Moments later, the house church leader, arrived. She didn’t know what had happened the day before. She didn’t know about the empty pot or the family prayer. But in her hands wasa bag — full of rice, canned goods, noodles and other food.
Ashley’s eyes widened.Without a word, she ran to her little “room” — just a simple space behind a curtain — and began jumping up and down, full of joy and laughter.
“Thank You, Jesus! Thank You, Jesus!”
He had heard.He had answered.
Just like He said He would.
